Message from the Master
Our future depends on the best-educated young people of today. It is they who
must master the science and engineering that will solve the problems of
tomorrow. They must develop the technology to satisfy our energy demands and
to meet the challenges of climate change. They must pioneer the medical
advances to safeguard our health. They must add to our cultural vitality in
many fields, such as history, philosophy, mathematics, literature and art. In
short, their knowledge and understanding are vital to the progress of our
civilisation.
Churchill College attracts exceptionally gifted and motivated young people — not only from the UK but from all over the world. They are the leaders of the next generation. Our task is to provide them with a higher education that is second to none. This is not just a matter of teaching and learning. It involves a total university experience, including a marvellous variety of sporting, social and other opportunities. We aim to help students realise their full potential for their own fulfilment, and for the benefit of society as a whole.
To do this we rely on the dedication of an outstanding Fellowship, supported by a wide range of facilities such as library and computing services which are of the highest quality. The provision of these places ever increasing financial pressures on the College. We also rely on the commitment of the undergraduates and graduates themselves, who often make real sacrifices in order to come to Churchill: the best students must have access to Churchill, regardless of their financial background.
This is why we need your help. Your support will assist young people in a superlative educational environment. It will enable them and us to go on competing with the very best in the world. And it will contribute to the building of a better future for all. I hope that you will give generously and I invite you to visit the College to see the difference you are making.
