The Graduation Ceremony: The University's description

It is customary that graduands kneel when admitted and that the Vice-Chancellor pronounces the Trinity. To be precise, he or she says the following words: "Auctoritate mihi commissa admitto te ad gradum (name of degree), in nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sanctii", which, being translated, means "By the authority committed to me, I admit you to the degree of (name of degree) in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." (The 'Trinitarian formula' (which translates as "… in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" may be omitted at the request of the graduand). The Praelector advises that the request must be made by prior notice in writing.

Full details of the ceremony can be found on this University website:- http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/univ/degrees/.
