A classic Conservative Party attack on its traditional opponent: as it turned out, though the Conservatives won the most seats, it was the Labour Party which did best out of the 1923-24 election, forming a minority government in January 1924 with Liberal support. The first Labour Government was short-lived, however, and the Conservatives returned to power later that year.
