Churchill Era: Press Release

Launch of exciting new "Churchill Era" website

"The empires of the future are the empires of the mind" Winston S. Churchill, 6 September 1943.

On Thursday 30 January 2003 Churchill Archives Centre, Churchill College, Cambridge will be formally launching its educational website "The Churchill Era". This site is already live at http://www.chu.cam.ac.uk/archives/education/churchill_era/ and currently consists of exercises on different aspects of the First World War for use at A' Level. The exercises are based on original documents held in the Centre's collections. They have been developed by Seán Lang (former Head of History at Hills Road VI Form College, Cambridge) and by Archives Centre staff.

The Churchill Archives Centre holds the personal papers of some of the most prominent politicians, civil servants, diplomats, service chiefs and scientists of the twentieth century. This new web based resource will take these unique records out of the reading room and make them available in classrooms and homes throughout the Nation and beyond, thereby providing the widest possible access to some of the raw materials of history.

The Archives Centre is keen to encourage everyone to use this site, and will be pleased to obtain feedback and comments. For further information please contact:
