This letter from Churchill to President Eisenhower was written shortly after the severe stroke of 23 June 1953 which incapacitated the Prime Minister and delayed the Bermuda Conference. The seriousness of Churchill's illness was a closely guarded secret, but he was clearly determined to recover and address the international problems he identifies. It is interesting these include the question of the British military presence in the Suez Canal, foreshadowing the crisis that was to develop three years later.
