Big House, October 1945. The Big House was the former dormitory of the Los Alamos Ranch School. It was used during the early days of the Manhattan Project to house the first scientists and their families and later as a library, chaplain's office and Red Cross headquarters, as well as a guesthouse for VIP visitors.
