"... one of the great loves of my life: walking, scrambling and climbing in the mountains".
A snaphot taken by Quintin Hogg (later Lord Hailsham) of a party of fellow climbers in the Swiss Alps, c 1920s-30s. He discovered his love of climbing on family holidays in Lucerne and later, as an Oxford undergraduate, during the reading weeks hosted by legendary Balliol don 'Sligger' Urquhart at the Chalet des Anglais, above St-Gervais-les-Bains.
