Athletics takes place mainly on a university level; however the college does take part in cuppers (twice a year) which is a great opportunity to try out new events without taking it too seriously. Whether you are just interested in giving it a try, or training more seriously contact the club for more information.

We are more than 50 members of the Badminton Club. We play in the league and cuppers. We arrange a talk once a term and there are 2 men's teams in high divisions and a women's team. Club can provide a racquet if you do not have one. Players of all standards are welcome - whether for fun or serious players. All practise sessions are at The Leys School.

The basketball team has just gained promotion to the first division of the college league after a successful season during 2008/09. The team play in the college league, and also the Cuppers knockout tournament each year, giving around 1 game per week through the Michaelmas and Lent terms. Games are played at Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre, whilst there is also an outdoor basket at college.

The boat club caters for people looking for competitive sport and those also looking for a less pressureful fun rowing experience. We have approximately 120 members in college although not all of them will be rowing during any given term. Rowing will take 6 - 12 hours a week of time depending on the level to which you take it, although not all that time is in the early morning, no matter what horror stories you may have heard! (OK so some of it will be - but it's not that bad).
All our training takes place on the river Cam although we take our first and second boats to regattas outside of Cambridge several times a term. For more information see our website which has details of our mailing list.

The college has four cricket teams: 1st XI, 2nd XI, MCR and mixed teams, providing the opportunity for people of all abilities to play cricket during the Easter term. The cricket pitch is on the college campus, as are the outdoor nets. Training takes place twice a week during the season, with 1-2 games per week including friendlies and Cuppers.
Senior Treasurer: Dr Colm Caulfield
We have one ladies team, supported by a large squad of 20 regular players and many other interested people. We play in the CUWAFC league, Cuppers and the Plate, and also organise friendly matches so that everybody gets a chance to play, regardless of their level of ability. We try to play one match a week, and have a practice or kickaround in the week, but beyond that the commitment required of players is low - the emphasis is more on enjoying ourselves playing football than spending hours doing fitness training!
Senior Treasurer: Dr Alex Webb (men)
Churchill College Gym has a multi-gym, free weights and a range or aerobic equipment including a treadmill and two cross-trainers. The gym is great to use if you want to build strength, body sculpt, burn-off fat, improve general fitness or for specific sports conditioning. Whether male or female, JCR or MCR, it is for all to use once a brief gym induction has been conducted. Look out for posters of up and coming induction sessions or contact the Gym President via the Porter's Lodge for details.

Churchill College has four grass and three hard courts on its premises which are free to all college members. The Churchill Lawn Tennis Club consists of about a dozen slightly more ambitious players of both genders who play in two or more teams in the annual intercollegiate competition ('Cuppers'); despite the club's name, many matches are also played on hard courts.
In the 2011/2012 season, Churchill came up just short in their Cuppers campaign, losing the final 4-5 in the last championship tiebreak. The team will do its utmost to go one step further this season.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with the captain in case of any questions.
Senior Treasurer: Dr Pieter Van Houten
Not just for the girls! With two mixed teams and one ladies team, Churchill netball has many enthusiastic male members! Both ladies and mixed teams participate in cuppers tournaments, and the ladies team is also part of the University league. The College is about to resurface its courts!

The rugby club at Churchill is about union in more ways than one: it is for both men and women and absolutely any ability. There are 40 men and 15 ladies, whose past experience varies from semi-professional to never having seen a ball before. The clubs are some of the biggest in the College and University and this is reflected in our success in producing university level players and doing well in inter-collegiate competitions.
You will need to acquire "general rugby kit", i.e. boots, gum shield and shorts and a sense of sociability and fun! Expect to spend 4 hours per week on Rugby+ social time where members frequent their sponsor (The Pickerel Inn). For more information check out our website.

Churchill members are eligible for full membership of Cambridge University Casual Sailing, allowing them to come on any of their sailing trips (for sailors of all abilities; instructors are provided), or use their boats on their own if reasonable experience can be shown, paying only the trip fee. Full details.
The best week of your life comes only once a year! Churchill College Ski and Snowboard Club have been the proud hosts the annual college ski trip since 2006. Venturing into the heights of the French Alpes aboard a student laden coach might seem like a daunting task to some, but we are able to convince 70 or so to kit up and leave dank wet Britain for blue skis and fresh snow!

We have indoor facilities in college and the club operates an active ladder and occasional competitions. The top players from the ladder are selected to play for the College teams in the intercollegiate league and the Cuppers tournament. We have several racquets available for loan and players of all abilities are welcome.
Senior Treasurer: Dr Kevin Knowles
The Churchill College Table Tennis Club owns and maintains the TT equipment in college which includes a table, nets, bats and balls. These facilities are made available to the entire college. The key for the equipment can be signed out from the P'lodge in a similar fashion to the Pav key. As a result, the table is frequently used, especially in the evenings.
Within college, the TT club runs a ladder system, with the top 6-10 players representing college in the inter-colliegate leagues. The inter-colliegiate league caters for all standards. Currently, we have one team in the first division and one in the second. Both teams are performing well.

Churchill College's Ultimate Frisbee team has grown from its foundation in 2004 to one of the biggest college teams in the University. For those not yet in the know, Ultimate Frisbee is a team sport that falls somewhere between American Football and Netball: points are given for catching the Frisbee in the endzone, and players can't run when holding the disc. It's very easy to learn, and great fun to play for all levels, so much so that you might not even notice that you're getting fit as well!
Skill levels run from the first team ('Chillies'), who won the Lent College League and Cuppers in 2011, to general chuck-abouts on the fields with friends, and everything in between! Practices are usually twice a week, with matches on weekends. One of the most popular sports for freshers to take up, the number of competitive teams depends on how many players we have each year.
Check out our website if you are interested!

Inter-collegiate volleyball is only played in Easter term with the exception of Indoor Cuppers (1+1 day) in Michaelmas and early Lent term. In the summer league there are 4 divisions (mixed teams). Churchill did really well this year and we are always looking for interested players to keep our teams going strong. This year's results: 1st team 2/8 in Div I, 2nd team 4/8 in Div II (best 2nd team), 3rd team 4/8 in Div III (the only 3rd team in the league, competing against some 1st teams!).
Practices tend to be Tuesdays and Thursdays, with matches played on the weekend. That said, college volleyball is an outdoor, fair weather pursuit with a casual and friendly atmosphere. As long as there is sustained interest, we get the net out on a regular basis when the weather is nice and people are around from April to September. Everyone is welcome.

The college waterpolo and swimming club has approximately 30 members. There are 3 types of events:
The swimming club welcomes people to train together but as yet no times have been officially stated. Anyone interested in swimming or waterpolo can give it ago, just email the address below. We have players/swimmers of all standards and we are happy to teach the non-initiated to play waterpolo.
The waterpolo takes place in either of two swimming pools in Cambridge - The Leys School and The Frank Lee Centre. It is normally possible to organise cars to get to the matches as some members drive. We have an email list - chuswim - which has been set up to keep our members informed. Please contact chu-swim-managers@lists.cam.ac.uk for being included.
