Library regulations
Food and drink may not be taken into the Reading Rooms under any circumstances.
"Drink" excludes bottles of water, but bottle tops must be securely tightened and the bottles themselves should be kept in students' bags.
Drinks containers should never be placed on the desks, chairs or floor.
Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the Library building.
These restrictions apply 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. An on-the-spot fine of £10.00 will be levied on anyone found contravening these regulations. Fines will be debited at source from your College account.
Mobile phones should be turned off or switched to mute before being taken into either of the Reading Rooms.
Laptop computers may be used in the Reading Rooms except for the two desks designated laptop-free at the far end of the Bracken Library. Those wishing to use a laptop must comply with the following conditions:
- If you intend to connect your laptop to the mains supply a valid safety test sticker must be clearly visible on your computer. Please contact the College Maintenance Department to have your computer tested if this has not already been done. Once tested, your laptop will be deemed safe to use for one year, after which time it must be tested again.
- If your laptop is connected to the mains supply you must make sure that the cable is adequately protected to prevent other readers from tripping over it.
