There is a separate section of this website providing information about the care of the Rubio harpsichord. The College has a splendid Recital Room and practice facilities, and, as well as the harpsichord, two superb Grand pianos. These all need to be cherished, and that involves careful consideration of the environment in which they are placed. This involves thinking about humidity, temperature, exposure to direct sunlight, and so on. General advice can be found here: http://www.besbrodepianos.co.uk/pianocare.htm.
Moving large instruments is a hazardous business. If, for any reason, one of our instruments is moved by anyone who is not a member of the College staff or students, then it must be established that the person responsible for moving the instrument is adequately insured against accidental damage. The College's insurance provides adequate cover if an instrument is moved within the College by staff or students. Neverthless, the hazardous nature of instrument-moving must be recognised. Ensure that more than enough people are on hand to help.
It is all too easy for shared music practice facilities to become untidy … sordid even; try to leave the various rooms in a tidy state … as you would hope to find them.
