Pieter van Houten is Lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS). His main research interests are in European and comparative politics, in particular territorial politics in Western Europe (such as regional autonomy movements, patterns of state decentralisation and the territorial organisations of political parties, with a primary focus on Belgium, Germany and Spain) and state building and post-conflict reconstruction in the Balkans. He supervises for the first year politics paper, as well as for various other politics papers in the second and third years of the HSPS course.
