He is active on numerous fronts, whether writers workshops, Faculty classes on modern poetry, or literary theory. He and his partner, Tracy Ryan, also a poet, have generously funded two annual Prizes open to students at Cambridge: the John Kinsella / Tracy Ryan Poetry Prize and The Other Prize (for play-writing), both at £500 each. The judges for the Prizes are chosen from Churchill and elsewhere and The Other Prize includes a workshop on the winning script by the Literary Manager of the Royal Shakespeare Company, using RSC actors.
