I'm the Director of Studies in Modern Languages for the first-year students and for Admissions, as well as being a Senior Research Fellow in French. I hold an Honorary Professorship in French Literature, awarded by Cambridge University in 2007. I've had a lot of experience of teaching and lecturing in French in both Cambridge and Oxford. I teach Churchill students for the 'Introduction to French literary texts' option at first-year level; at more advanced levels (second and final year), I teach students a wide range of topics in French literature and culture in the period from 1800 on. My research interests are in modern French literature; I've published a number of books and articles on nineteenth- and twentieth-century authors, and my latest book, coming out with Polity Press, is A Cultural History of French Literature.
