John Richer is a Reader in Astrophysics at the Cavendish Laboratory, where he lectures various courses in Physics. At Churchill, he is Director of Studies for third and fourth year physics students. He studied Natural Sciences at Queens' College, Cambridge, and did his PhD in the Radioastronomy group at the Cavendish Laboratory.
His research interests include the physics of star and planet formation, in particular the study of the earliest phases of star formation and their associated protostellar jets. He is an expert in radioastronomical observations at millimetre and submillimetre wavelengths, and has been actively involved in the development of major observatories including the JCMT in Hawaii, and the ALMA Observatory in Chile.
