Nicola Smith attended Churchill College as an undergraduate, matriculating in 1992. She was awarded a first in her MVST – taking neurophysiology in her third year. She continued to study clinical medicine in Cambridge – qualifying in 1997. Following junior surgical rotations she obtained an MD from Liverpool University for research on embryological lung development in Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. Following this she continued with training in Paediatric Surgery – working in Liverpool, Auckland and Edinburgh. She obtained her FRCS(Paed) in 2008. She was appointed as Consultant in Paediatric Surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital in 2009 where she continues to work – specialist areas of interest include laparoscopic and gastrointestinal surgery.
