Dr Martin Stevens PhD

Fellow

Zoologist

Fellow (2009)

Martin Stevens is a College Lecturer in Biological Sciences. He did his PhD at the University of Bristol on bird vision and animal camouflage, before moving to Cambridge as a Junior Research Fellow at Girton College in 2006. He is currently a BBSRC David Phillips Fellow, based in the Department of Zoology. His work covers sensory ecology and behaviour, especially visual perception and adaptive coloration. It combines empirical and theoretical work in the lab and field to investigate topics ranging from anti-predator coloration, mate choice, brood parasitism, and methods to study vision and visual signals. He is interested in how signals work in terms of the visual mechanisms exploited, and how they lead to a specific behaviour. His work aims to make links with aspects of experimental psychology and computer vision.
