Churchill 2 - 0 Engineering
Churchill
Scorers : Ehsan 2
The stakes were high before the game: a win would ensure
that we remained in contention for the league while a
loss would spark concerns about relegation. Also, given
the fact that roughly half of the Churchill MCR team are
engineers, there was a lot of pride at stake. A victory
was imperative; otherwise, we'd be forced to hide out in
libraries for the next few weeks and wear disguises when
visiting the department.
Our objective was not to concede any goals and to score
at least one. In the end Eshan scored twice and 2:0 was
a fair reflection on our performance. Engineering put
out a strong side for the game and fought hard. However,
our defence was solid with Frank K. doing a lot of
important talking, Joe putting in some great tackles,
and Paulo and Alan creating the aura of the better AC
Milan sides. Greg looked very confident in his first
competitive game as goalkeeper in 6 years, and while he
didn't have much to do, he made a crucial save from a
good strike just before half time.
Thomas K. played very well on the right wing, winning
headers against men 12" taller. Not to be outdone, Pete
successfully challenged the 6'8" defender for the kick
outs. Both Hugh and Paul were impressive as always
around the centre of the park, both in helping out the
defence and in sending clever passes through to the
attackers. At the start of the second half, Thomas K.
picked up a knock and the substitute Juan was unlucky
not to score after some excellent hassling.
Overall, it was a strong performance - we resembled the
Churchill of old: plenty of passion, solid in defence,
strong the centre and effective up front. Next week,
we're at home to Jesus, the current league leaders. Many
of us still have nightmares about last year's game
against Jesus, and eagerly await a chance to do better.
We'll give them a hell of game.
