The Centre for Intercultural Musicology at Churchill College is delighted to present a concert on 23 April 2013, 6pm, Recital Room, Churchill College featuring an exciting evening of traditional and new music written for the gamelan, tabla, Western and Chinese instruments.
It will be presented by members of the Cambridge Gamelan Group, Southbank Gamelan Players and Cambridge University Chinese Orchestra. The programme includes contemporary gamelan compositions by Richard Causton and Robert Campion as well as the premiere of 'Talatricks' by Valerie Ross.

Description:
Churchill provides Music Bursaries to students to help them pursue private instrumental or vocal training. This is the second of two concerts in the Recital Room (the other being in the Easter term) at which the holders of these Bursaries perform for the rest of the College. This term’s performers are Megan McGregor, Emmy Bacharach, Moira Cox, Adrian Ball, Alastair Kwan and Jasper Lee.

Description:
Martin Hughes and Philip Jenkins return to the Recital Room for an epic voyage through the violin and piano sonatas of Mozart, Debussy and Brahms.
Philip Jenkins is a distinguished solo pianist and teacher, currently based at the Guildhall School. He was appointed a Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in 1974 and was later Head of Keyboard Studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama for seventeen years.
Martin Hughes is an equally accomplished violinist, and his performances have featured both in CD recordings and in BBC radio and television productions. He was Head of Strings at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama for five years and is currently Head of Strings at the Bedford School.

Jessica Lawrence-Hares is an American mezzo-soprano. She has experience in recital, opera and oratorio, and is coming to Churchill's Recital Room for what will no doubt be an exciting and dynamic performance.
American mezzo-soprano Jessica Lawrence-Hares received her BM magna cum laude and her MM in voice performance from Boston University. Operatic roles include Mercedes (Carmen) and Nicklaus (Hoffmans Erzählungen) with the Komische Kammeroper München, and Lady with a Hat Box (Postcard from Morocco) and the Sea (Before Night Falls) with the Boston University Opera Institute. She has been featured soloist in performances of Aaron Copland's In the Beginning and the Mozart Requiem in the Boston area.
