Compressed Sensing: Alex Bastounis

Why does an MRI scan take so long? How can we improve it to make it faster? Why do webpages load quickly?

Compressed sensing and general image compression provide a partial answer to these questions. This talk explains how image compression works as well as present compressed sensing as an application of image compression that can reduce scanning times on a variety of devices.

Alex Bastounis is a postgraduate student at Churchill College, University of Cambridge. He is undertaking a PhD as part of the Applied Functional and Harmonic Analysis group within the Cambridge Centre for Analysis at DAMTP.
