Postdoctoral By-Fellowships

Each year, Churchill College appoints 10 Postdoctoral By-Fellows from among the postdoctoral researchers of the University of Cambridge and its associated research institutes.

The appointments, for up to three years from 1 October, are intended to maintain the community of around 60 postdocs in the College (which also includes Junior Research Fellows and Teaching By-Fellows). They provide full membership of the Senior Common Room, some dining rights at College expense, access to sports and music facilities and opportunities for participation in the academic and social life of the College.

Application is by CV and letter, in which, in no more than 750 words, applicants should describe their research and explain its importance, and say what they will bring to the Churchill academic community. Applications are welcome in any subject. Applicants are expected to hold a funded postdoctoral research position or personal fellowship, with tenure for at least two years, in the University or one of its associated research institutes. Appointments will be made on the basis of academic distinction and potential contribution to the academic community at Churchill College. The positions involve no formal teaching requirement, although it is hoped that those appointed will participate in mentoring our postgraduate students or contribute to the College in other ways. Opportunities for undergraduate teaching may be available in some subjects.

Applications for the next round of Postdoctoral By-Fellowships, to commence in October 2018, will open in the Spring of 2018, and the call for applications will be announced on this page and elsewhere.
