The Tutorial Team

The College Tutorial Team
Every student is assigned a tutor. Tutors are concerned with your welfare and progress throughout your time at the Churchill. You should feel free to speak to or contact your tutor at any time, and they should be your first point of contact for any matter concerning yourself and the College, or for advice or help on any personal or financial matter. Tutors can also act as intermediaries in official relations between postgraduate students and the University. Academic problems are primarily the responsibility of your research supervisor or director of studies, but these matters are often also useful to discuss with your tutor. The college also has a Finance Tutor, who is well-informed about student finance matters.
Please note that all students are expected to work adequately and appropriately and that their college membership may be at risk if they fail to do so. Students are also required to abide by the College and University Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations:Â www.admin.cam.ac.uk./univ/so/Â

International students

* Pre-arrival information
Practical guidance on coming to study in the UK and at Cambridge, including the International Student Guide:
www.internationalstudents.cam.ac.uk/arriving
* Coronavirus
The best place to keep up to date with the latest on the University Coronavirus guidance is to make sure you regularly check the following site:
https://www.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/coronavirus
* Visas
For overseas students, please make sure you are familiar with your visa responsibilities.
The University will sponsor students who need a student visa and will be in touch once all conditions set by Postgraduate Admissions are met. Please note that there is an NHS charge payable on visa application. This also applies to dependents. Updates can be found at:Â https://www.internationalstudents.cam.ac.uk/arriving/orientation/healthcare
Please also check https://www.gov.uk/tb-test-visa to see if you need a pre-entry tuberculosis (TB) check.
* General Vaccinations advice
* Biometric residence permits (BRPs) collection
The international student team will be in touch regarding the distribution of BRPs for those students who have selected collection from the University (and not the Post Office) on their visa application. Students will need to take their BRPs to College for scanning after collection. For courses starting early, IST will be attending inductions and uploading visas onto CamSIS (ADTIS, MBA, MFin and Economics preparatory course):Â www.internationalstudents.cam.ac.uk/collecting-your-visa-brp
* Police registration
Appointments must be booked in advance:Â https://www.internationalstudents.cam.ac.uk/student-visa-responsibilities/police-registrationÂ
* UK Points Based Immigration (PBI) requirements
Under the terms of the UK’s PBI legislation, overseas students who need a visa to study in the UK, are required formally to register with the University and College when they arrive at the start of their course and then once a term during their programme of study. At Churchill this registration takes place in the Postgraduate Office. At first registration students present their passport and visa for recording. At subsequent registrations they have to provide proof of identity by presenting their Cambridge University membership card and they also have to update their contact details if these have changed since last registration. If any of the formal registrations is missed, the College is required to notify the authorities. Students who fail to satisfy the requirements of the PBI legislation are at risk of deportation. Students must inform the Postgraduate Office if they are to leave the country at any time.
* Insurance
Private medical insurance is recommended for all students to cover repatriation etc. Students on visas now need to pay a NHS charge upon application for a visa. Students ordinarily resident in the EU must make sure they have an EHIC card before coming to the UK. Those students who fall between the two (e.g. a dual citizen usually resident in the USA but travelling on an EU passport) will need to have medical insurance in place before travelling to the UK.
Content insurance is organised by the College with a one-off payment of £13.22 taken off your College account. The cover provided covers mobile phones, laptops and bicycles whilst in College and across University departments for the year. More information is attached.  Endsleigh Student Insurance
*Â Settling in
As part of the settling-in process, the MCR organises language mentoring between existing and new students. This is a great chance to get involved in the college community! Student language mentors are assigned a few students who wish to improve their English. In return, they may be interested in improving their second or third language from the new students. It involves 1-2 hours fortnightly but it is flexible depending on what the group aims to get out of it. They may organise to meet weekly, fortnightly or less often, for a social chat, proof reading a draft dissertation or listening to a practice presentation.
