SUMMARY:Churchill Business Network: Big Data
DESCRIPTION:This term’s Churchill Business Network will focus on careers in the data sector.\n\n\n\nWe’ll commence with short presentations from our speakers with expertise in this field\, move to an audience Q&A\, and finish with informal networking over a drink or two. \n\n\n\nThe event takes place on Thursday 4 June from 6.15pm in the elegant surrounding of the Oxford and Cambridge Club on Pall Mall. Please note the Club has a strict dress code for all attendees\, this is not the choice of the College. \n\n\n\nThis event is for Churchill alumni/students/Fellows (who may each bring one guest) only\, and is not otherwise open to the general public. Entry is free but booking is essential using the form at the bottom of the page. \n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr Sam Lambert (Fellow) is an Assistant Professor of Health Data Science within the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit of the Department of Public Health & Primary Care. His research focuses on polygenic [risk] scores\, a recently developed method to predict individuals’ genetic predisposition for different heritable traits and diseases. He is a strong proponent of open science and is also a Visiting Researcher at the European Bioinformatics Institute where he collaborates to develop tools and resources to enable the reproducible use of polygenic scores in research and clinical applications. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProfessor Mary De Silva (U96) is Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser\, Deputy Director for Health Protection Research\, and Head of the Science and Engineering Profession in the Department of Health and Social Care\, supporting the Chief Scientific Adviser in all aspects of her role across government and the devolved administrations\, ensuring that policies and decisions are informed by the best scientific evidence and strategic long-term thinking. She is also responsible for setting strategy on health protection research. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOther speakers TBA.
