The Music Society is delighted to announce its Lent Term Friday evening Pre-formal Recital Series.
All recitals are at 6.15pm in the Recital Room unless stated otherwise. Performances are FREE and un-ticketed, with a retiring collection.
25th — Freshers' Recital
Musicians from the newest intake of Churchill students announce their arrival.
1st — Edward Lilley & Sophia Ramnarine
Edward (harpsichord) and Sophia (cello) explore the music of Boccherini, Soler and Scarlatti, alongside their own adaptations of Bach's cello suites.
8th — Music Bursary Audition Recital
Churchill College students perform live auditions as part of their applications for the College Music Bursaries.
15th — Blow: Ode on the Death of Henry Purcell
Two male altos from the choir of King's College join forces with early music specialists in College to perform a programme of Baroque and contemporary music. This is part of the Michaelmas term Purcell 360° Festival.
22nd — Churchill Swing Interpret Purcell
Henry Purcell is famous for writing tuneful melodies above repeating bass-lines, known as ground bass ostinati. Churchill Swing, a small jazz group led from the bass by Ewan Campbell, 'walk' new paths over these well-trodden 'grounds'. This is part of the Michaelmas term Purcell 360° Festival.
29th — Orchestra on the Hill
Music and theatre meet in this programme interpolating musical interpretations of A Midsummer Night's Dream by Mendelsohn and Purcell, with extracts of Shakespeare's famous fairy tale. The programme also includes Concertos by Bourne and Vaughan Williams. This is part of the Michaelmas term Purcell 360° Festival. (Note this concert will be held in the Wolfson Theatre)
6th — Churchill Jazz Band
Churchill Jazz Band close the term with a stirring performance of big band classics, and not a note of Purcell! (Note this concert will be held in the Wolfson Theatre)
