Jacob Rode is a Teaching Associate in the Department of Psychology at Cambridge. He received a PhD from the University of California, Irvine, and a BA from Johns Hopkins University. After completing his PhD, Jacob completed a postdoc at Harvard University where he created and taught courses for two years. He then was a faculty member at Chapman University for two years, teaching courses in psychology such as environmental psychology and research methods.
Jacob’s research sits at the intersection of sustainability and psychology, investigating topics in sustainability from a social psychological perspective. For example, he is interested in how people receive messages about sustainability and the factors that influence the effectiveness of those messages, with a particular focus on politics. His work has examined factors such as the partisan source of a news article or the format in which a message is conveyed. Jacob is interested in finding the most effective way of shifting environmental attitudes with the goal of increasing bipartisan agreement and action on issues like climate change.
