Each autumn, one of Churchill College’s greatest privileges is to welcome a new cohort of undergraduate students to our vibrant academic community. Arriving from across the UK and around the world, our newest students bring an impressive breadth of interests, talents and experiences. Together, they will help shape the next chapter of Churchill life.
We are delighted to welcome 134 new undergraduate entrants across 25 Tripos courses. They join a College with a longstanding reputation for academic excellence, and this year’s cohort arrives with an exceptional record of achievement.
Reflecting the College’s founding mission, 70.2% of our incoming students will study STEM subjects, while 29.8% will pursue Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS), sustaining the breadth of disciplines and intellectual perspectives that has long been a hallmark of Churchill life. With 29.8% representing 40 students in the cohort, this remains a sizable AHSS intake among Cambridge Colleges.
The academic profile of this year’s intake is particularly impressive, underlining both the exceptional ability of the students joining Churchill and the highly competitive nature of admission:
- A-level attainment: 95% of STEM entrants achieved A*A*A* or better, while 94% of AHSS entrants achieved A*A*A or better. Overall, A-level entrants achieved an average of 3.3 A* grades per student, rising to 3.6 A* grades among STEM entrants.
- International Baccalaureate: Students entering via the IB route achieved an exceptional average score of 43.9 points out of 45.
Alongside these outstanding academic accomplishments, our new students bring a range of experiences, interests and perspectives which all contribute to College life. As ever, Churchill remains committed to attracting and supporting exceptional students from all backgrounds, and to removing barriers so that academic talent and potential can be recognised wherever it is found.
Speaking about the incoming cohort, Dr Mark King, Lead Admissions Tutor, said:
“Every year, it is a privilege to welcome our new students to Churchill. Above all, Churchill undergraduates are defined by their intellectual curiosity, academic ambition and potential. Achieving results of this standard requires exceptional commitment and hard work, and we are delighted to welcome this talented new generation as they begin their Cambridge journey.”
Dr Rita Monson, Senior Tutor, added:
“All of our new students should be immensely proud of what they have achieved to earn their place at Churchill. We are delighted to welcome them into our community and look forward to supporting them as they flourish academically, personally and socially over the years ahead.”
To all our 2026 freshers: welcome to Churchill! We look forward to seeing all that you will accomplish during your time here.
