Important information for members of the University on how Brexit will affect them can now be found on a new dedicated website.
Plans are now well underway to launch our dedicated Graduate Telephone Campaign in October when callers will be contacting our graduate alumni to build relationships and raise money for the new Graduate Accommodation Project.
Every contribution will make a big difference: this year more than ever before, because one of our Graduate alumni, Tony Wild (G68, PhD Physical Chemistry) has generously offered to match fund, pound for pound, the first £50,000 of donations raised for the project. Tony spoke about his time at Churchill and his motivation for supporting the campaign.
"I was a PhD student between 1968 and 1971, doing research at the Department of Physical Chemistry. This was a small department and therefore interaction with other research students and faculty members was a little limited. Fortunately, in Churchill I was able to have a room for all three years and benefitted hugely from the friendships and relationships I made, quite a few of which survive to this day. As it turned out, this was not merely social interaction since I also learnt a lot from my fellow students. ….indeed specific help from a colleague in theoretical engineering and another in chemical engineering helped me to solve some knotty problems which were of real help in my PhD research.
Churchill I think also impressed my wonderful Swiss girlfriend in Cambridge to the extent we got engaged in the College and then married in the College chapel. To cap off a wonderful experience, we even then lived in one of the flats for married graduates where I wrote my thesis.
Churchill College has a tremendous advantage in being able to offer so much on-site accommodation but, as the numbers increase of top-notch research students wanting to come to Churchill, we very much need more and I am therefore thrilled to be able to support this cause."
