Michael Cowan has become the College’s first Winston Churchill Fellow, an honour reserved for those donating over £5m to College.
The award has been given in recognition of Michael's substantial support of Churchill over the past ten years, which have included funding a substantial part of the building of Cowan Court, and a recent £1m donation for the College’s endowment.
Michael is a Churchill alumnus having studied engineering (matriculating in 1970) and with a subsequent career in Investment Management, managing global and international equity portfolios. After experience with Rothschilds, Lazards and Morgan Stanley, Michael was a founder of Silchester International Investors in London in 1995. His primary role is to manage international equity portfolios for large US endowments, foundations, pension funds and private family offices. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.
Michael has been a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of the College since 1999, he has been involved with fund raising since 2009 and he is currently Chair of the Development Board.
He will be formally admitted early next year at a special ceremony hosted by the Master. We are grateful for his support of the College and many years of service advising the College pro bono on the investment committee and Development board, which have helped us start to build a solid foundation for our endowment.
