French Ambassador visit

On Tuesday 30 April the College was delighted to welcome the French Ambassador to the UK, M. Jean-Pierre Jouyet, during his visit to Cambridge.

The Ambassador was accompanied by colleagues from the Embassy in London including the Science and Technology Counsellor, Dr Jean Arlat, the Higher Education, Research and Innovation Attachée, Dr Alice Béja, and the Head of the Political Section, M. Teymouraz Gorjestani.

The Ambassador enjoyed a tour of The Churchill Archives Centre, where he ‘shook the hand of Churchill’ as is traditional for distinguished visitors, and viewed a selection of exhibits that had been specially selected by the Director, Allen Packwood, and his staff.  The party then joined the Master and College Officers for lunch in the Cockroft Room, where the Ambassador viewed Churchill’s painting of the French coast near Biarritz, and met the current French Government Fellows, Professors Myriam Boussahba-Bravard, Thomas Benatouil and Patrick Peter, as well as other Fellows with a French connection, including Alison Finch, Christophe Gagne, Edmund Birch and Anny King.

The College greatly values the enrichment of its society by visiting French Government Fellows and was grateful for the opportunity to thank the Ambassador for his government’s continuing support for the fellowship programme.
