On Thursday 14 November the Jock Colville Hall was filled with the sound of students and alumni learning how to ‘pitch perfectly’. The workshop was led by pitching guru Adelina Chalmers and formed part of the Churchill Enterprise programme of events designed to develop and support the entrepreneurial skills of current students and alumni.
Attendees participated in a hands-on, practical coaching session designed to help enhance their communication and presentation skills, understand how to influence and impress potential employers and present any business ideas they had in way to engage customers and investors.
Also known as the Geek Whisperer, Adelina is an expert in transforming communication skills into formulas engineers and scientists understand. The first Cambridge University engineer Adelina helped with his pitch sold his business and became a multi-millionaire at the age of 28. Adelina works with the University of Cambridge, helping engineers and scientists from across the world learn how to transform research into business and launch their innovative technology by partnering with industry.
The two hour workshop, which received excellent feedback, was followed by the chance to enjoy a cold buffet meal and continue networking:

It is hoped that all those who attended were inspired to enter next term’s Churchill College ‘Pitch to Win’ competition where participants will have the opportunity to pitch an idea for a new venture, a project, their research or anything else. The competition is a chance for Churchillians to prepare and practice their pitching skills in front of a friendly and supporting community, receive feedback and have the chance to win small monetary prizes. Free drinks and pizza will be provided during the post-event networking session. Current students and alumni are invited to apply with their 20 word pitch summary by Wednesday 22 January.
Both the workshop and the competition have been very generously supported by The Federation of Shenzhen Commerce (FSC). The FSC is a mutual-benefit and non-profit social organisation formed by the top Shenzhen entrepreneurs for acquiring important information, social and governmental resources.
