Last month, the College launched a four week crowdfunding appeal in partnership with alumna Imani Jeffers (U15) to fund the ISLA Gift Cambridge, a new financial award designed to support and encourage current and future Churchill students of Black Caribbean and/or Black African descent. We are delighted to report that the appeal exceeded the original target set of £3,000 and achieved a wonderful final total of £4,770 from 49 donors, rising to almost £5,800 once gift aid is applied!

This fantastic level of support has meant there are ample funds to launch and run the project for at least three years and we are also in a position to increase the number of awards available. Thanks to all those who generously supported the appeal we will be able to engage and encourage students of Black African or African-Caribbean descent with their educational aspirations whilst at Churchill and also encourage more applications to Churchill College and Cambridge from this underrepresented group.

The crowdfunding appeal may now be closed but it is not too late to support the project with a gift via the College’s online donation page by selecting ‘ISLA Gift’ from the drop-down list of funds. Any additional support we can secure will help to build and strengthen the impact of the award, particularly with regard to the opportunities available for those involved with our outreach/widening participation work in Croydon in future years.
