Illustrated Arctic News, RUKE 10, 31st Dec 1850

Thank you to all readers who have filled in our survey on the comfort of the Reading Rooms. You spoke, we listened! After analysing the first batch, we have already been able to implement some changes and have started work on others. Much of the feedback mentioned the chilly temperature in the Archives. The Reading Rooms are kept around a fresh 21oC to help preserve the documents. Air flow and sitting still can make this seem cooler. We have now updated our website to include a warning to readers to this effect and are encouraging new readers to make like the Arctic explorers pictured above and wrap up warm! Additionally, we have obtained hoodies celebrating the 50th anniversary of Churchill College to better achieve the December 1850 look and keep snug anyone caught unawares. We hope these changes will enable us to keep both documents and readers in their best condition.

The survey will continue to run throughout July so please keep letting us know how the facilities feel. Should anyone wish to complete one remotely, please get in touch at archives@chu.cam.ac.uk
