Flyer for the exhibition "D-Day: FDR & Churchill's Mighty Endeavour" opening May 25 2019

Behind military strategy and political decision-making lie fascinating human relationships. This exhibition, opening at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, New York on 25 May 2019, explores just such a relationship: between Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill.

The exhibition will coincide with the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of D-Day on 6 June 2019 and takes a closer look at events leading up to the Allied invasion of Normandy. Documents on display from the collections of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Churchill Archives Centre reveal the years of discussion and debate between the two men and their closest advisers preceding the military action. Each man’s distinctive personality and style is brought to life in his own words in both official and personal communications, many of them on display for the first time.

The original documents at the heart of the exhibition are complemented by historical artefacts, photographs and digital interactive installations. The exhibition is open to the public in the William vanden Heuvel Gallery from 25 May 2019 until 6 January 2020. A series of related events will also take place over the exhibition’s opening weekend 25-26 May.

The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library holds the papers of Franklin D. Roosevelt, his wife Eleanor Roosevelt and members of their circle. It was built in the grounds of Springwood, the Roosevelt family estate, and was the first presidential library in the United States.
