Mr Allen Packwood, Director of CAC, the Mayor of Tamworth, David Dawson of the UK National Committee for the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme, and Sir David Wallace, Master of Churchill College.

Are we now a World Heritage site? Well, not quite, but at a ceremony in Tamworth yesterday the papers of Sir Winston Churchill were inscribed on the UK National Register for Documentary Heritage, part of the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme. The ceremony in the seventeenth century council chamber brought together archivists from all over the country, and recognised the treasures in a wealth of different collections: from the Domesday Book to ship building on the Tyne. The certificate will now have pride of place within the Archives Centre. I wonder if Churchill had this end in mind when he drafted the Atlantic Charter and helped give birth to the United Nations?
