We are delighted to announce that Churchill College has received a Platinum award for the second consecutive year, in the University of Cambridge’s Green Impact Challenge

Green Impact is the University’s environmental accreditation scheme. It supports and encourages departments and colleges across the University in reducing their environmental impacts.

Commenting on Churchill’s work, judges said:

“This is a thriving team with great (sustainable) energy and lots of support from the College. Much has been done for sustainability and more is sought to be done. They have clearly labelled recycling and food waste bins. They also have plenty of mugs and reusable cups and are trying to reduce the number of disposable cups across the departments.”

Judges were particularly impressed with the wide range of the team’s initiatives, including; labelling the switches in the bar to help people identify how to switch off easily, separation of food waste from the dining hall and the student accommodation, beehives on campus, the use of natural compost to fertilise the grass, and the College’s electric car charging site.

Our platinum award — the highest achievable, was given to the College in recognition of these successful initiatives and the support for them that is generated from the right across the College, including the Bursar, Catering Team, Conferencing, as well as from staff and the student body.

Well done to all students & staff involved!
