This week Churchill proudly hosted 85 Year 12 students from the Swansea Seren Hub area as part of the Welsh Government’s Seren Network — a network of regional hubs supporting Wales’ brightest sixth-formers achieve their academic potential and gain access to leading universities.
Visiting Churchill and the University of Cambridge were students from Bishop Gore School, Bishop Vaughan Catholic School, Gower College Swansea, Olchfa School, Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr, and Ysgol Gyfun Bryn Tawe.
Staying at the College for 3 days, the students were able to attend one of our Sciences or Humanities Open Days and enjoyed a range of additional activities, including tours of and meals at other colleges such as Magdalene and Trinity, visits to the University’s museums and central library, a masterclass with a Cambridge academic, and of course, a spot of punting on the river.
In total Churchill welcomed 300 students and 150 supporting adults for its Open Days on the 9 and 10 April. These are valuable opportunities to meet and encourage students to apply to Cambridge and in particular, to Churchill. Our Admissions Team along with support from staff from Housekeeping, the Porters’ Lodge, and Catering work hard to ensure visitors to our Open Days are welcomed and looked after.
The visit was part of Churchill’s widening participation programme, which aims to help encourage and facilitate applications from the best students, irrespective of the background they come from. The College works closely with schools and colleges to ensure students get the best possible information about our offering and our admissions process.
