This seems especially true when it is a picture of David Coombs, receiving a specially made copy of a Churchill painting, in recognition of his research, scholarship and expertise on the pictures of Sir Winston Churchill. The photograph was taken at a special lunch in Churchill College on Wednesday 5th July and shows from (l to r): Barry Phipps, Minnie Churchill, Adrian Barbrook, Elizabeth Coombs, Randolph Churchill, David Coombs, Adrian Crisp, Catherine Churchill, Celia Sandys, Simon Bird and Allen Packwood.
David published his first book on Churchill’s art in 1967, and has produced the definitive catalogue of Sir Winston’s artistic works, which now runs to almost 550 canvases. He is the co-author with Minnie Churchill of ‘Sir Winston Churchill’s Life Through His Paintings’ (2003).
