Churchill’s Master, Professor Dame Athene Donald DBE, has been awarded an Hon DSc from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh for distinction in the field of condensed matter physics and for her exceptional contribution to the advancement of women in the communities of science.

Originating from the School of Arts of Edinburgh, founded in 1821 as the world’s first Mechanics Institute, Heriot-Watt is one of the oldest higher education institutions in the UK.
