Churchill student Tom Dendooven (G16) has been selected as the representative of Cambridge University at Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar in December 2017.
The Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar (SIYSS) is a week-long event for young international scientists, organised in connection with the Nobel prize ceremony by the SIYSS Committee of the Swedish Federation of Young Scientists with support from the Nobel Foundation.
The Seminar is designed to offer outstanding early career researchers (aged 18–24) the opportunity to interact with the wider scientific community, and to present their research in an international forum. Tom will attend this year’s event as the nominated representative for the University of Cambridge.
Tom is a first-year PhD student in the Department of Biochemistry and a member of the Luisi research group. His research focuses on the structure and working mechanism of the E. coli RNA degradosome using Cryo‑Electron Microscopy techniques (cryo-EM). Tom’s recent paper on the RNA search engines in bacterial regulation networks has been published in the journal of Biochemical Society Transactions.
