The Churchill Regional Group of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania
Churchill alumni in the New England area met at the beginning of this year to formally establish The Churchill Regional Group of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The group, led by Dr Kit Cheung, enjoyed brunch at the Churchill Tavern whilst discussing research and social interests. They hope to organise a seminar series for the autumn and would be delighted to welcome new members. If you are interested in joining the group then get in touch with Kit.
Cambridge in America Day 2014
Cambridge in America recently hosted CAm: Cambridge in America Day 2014 in New York, which featured Heads of House from King’s, St Edmund’s, Darwin, Homerton and Fitzwilliam. Over 150 alumni from 28 Colleges listened to lectures from leading academics, engaged in discussion and enjoyed the Emmanuel College Choir. The event was live streamed for those that couldn’t travel to New York. One Churchillian in attendance commented that there was a good balance of disciplines (poetry, criminal law, medical science, geology) and there were plenty of breaks to allow alumni to socialise.
Boston Group meet Bursar
Alumni living in Boston recently joined Churchill’s Senior Bursar, Jennifer Brook, for lunch at the Union Oyster House. The casual rolling lunch afforded the opportunity for individuals to hear updates about the College from Jennifer and meet fellow graduates living in the area. According to one Churchillian:
“as alumni from a variety of decades and disciplines came and went, the conversation bounced around recollections of past college highlights, advancements over the years and future plans for the college. We discussed ents, porters, computers and the graceful aging of college rooms. We spent an equal amount of time finding out about the backgrounds and career paths of people at the table as well as life in the United States. It was definitely worthwhile to attend – I’d love to meet up for another event with Boston-based Churchillians.”
