We were delighted to welcome Sir Peter Gershon, Chairman of National Grid (U66) and Dr Steve Churchhouse, a former Director of Rolls Royce (G85) to speak at the inaugural Churchill Business Network event at the Oxford and Cambridge club on 23 October.
A diverse range of years were represented from current students who matriculated in 2016 to alumni of 1966 vintage. The aim of the network is to create a group of alumni willing to help others at earlier or different stages of their careers by meeting, mentoring, advising and discussing matters of common interest. At the launch event the talks covered the two speakers’ relative business experience. Sir Peter Gershon told the audience his 7 mantras for success in business, while Steve Churchhouse outlined the various experiences that had informed his career at Rolls Royce, and now as an investor in start-ups. Development Board member Greg Lock (U66), who kindly sponsored the event, also addressed the audience and outlined the aims of the business network, as did Board member Michael Cowan (U70).
Guests enjoyed networking drinks after the talks and we hope they made many helpful connections – we have had many positive comments overall, and envisage holding two or three events per year, depending on demand. One attendee commented: ‘Very much enjoyed having the opportunity to meet with the attendees, in particular having access to so many senior people on a very informal basis.’
As this was a launch of the network we started with general talks, but we are always receptive to ideas alumni have about themes or speakers that would be of interest, so if there is someone you would like to hear from, or if you have any expertise in a particular area and would like to give a talk, or to be added to the Churchill Business Network’s mailing list please contact us:
