Biography

Dr O'Brien is a Newton Gulbenkian Junior Research Fellow.

Conor O’Brien studied English and History at Cork and Medieval Studies at Oxford. His primary research interests are in the intellectual and religious history of the early Middle Ages and his doctoral work focused upon the image of the Jewish temple in the writings of the Anglo-Saxon theologian and historian, Bede (d.735). That work has resulted in a monograph: 'Bede’s Temple: An Image and its Interpretation' (Oxford, 2015).

His current research explores the interplay of ideas about Christ, kingship and the secular in early medieval political theology. He has previously taught at Sheffield University.
