Greg retired from executive responsibilities in April 2000 after a 30 year career with the IBM Corporation. In that career he lived and worked in the USA, France, Germany and in the UK, in positions which covered most aspects of IBM’s extensive business. He served as assistant to the Chairman, a member of the IBM Worldwide Management Council, and as a Governor of the IBM Academy of Technology. He retired as Global general manager for Industrial Sector representing about 15% of IBM worldwide revenues. This involved the P&L for all IBM business with Aerospace, Automotive, Oil and Gas, Pharmaceutical, Electronic and Electrical, Engineering and Process companies. Total revenues were c. $12 Billion.
Since retiring from IBM Greg has, together with wife Rosie, established a charitable foundation aiming at supporting education in science and technology. He was Executive Chairman of Orchestream Holdings from June 2002 until January 2003 when he successfully concluded the sale of the Company. From October 2003 until it was sold in October 2007 he was Chairman of SurfControl PLC. From 2008 until it was sold in May 2015 he was Chairman of Kofax, a NASDAQ listed Software Company. He has been variously, Chairman, Senior independent Director of and Chairman of the Remuneration Committee of UBM PLC. From May 2018 until May 2109 he was Deputy Chairman of Informa PLC and from 2008 until May 2019 he was Chairman of Computacenter PLC. In February 2020 he became Chairman of MicroFocus PLC.
In the non-profit world Greg has been trustee or advisor to several national charities and is presently a trustee of the Lock Foundation, a member of the development board of Churchill College, Cambridge and of the board of the Lock’s Common Company. He is a fellow of Churchill College and a member of the Guild of Benefactors of Cambridge University. In 2016 he and wife Rosie established the Lock Bursaries at Churchill aimed at supporting less financially advantaged state school pupils, male and female in equal number, to pursue STEM subjects at Churchill.
He holds an MA in Natural Sciences from Churchill College and is a life Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce.
Greg is a member of the Hawks Club, MCC, Royal Porthcawl, Woking and North Wilts Golf Clubs, the Hurlingham Club, Cambridge University RUFC, the Welsh Academicals RFC and the Royal Institution. He has a lifelong passion for Rugby, Cricket and Golf. He has been on the fund raising board of the national cricket charity ‘Chance to Shine’ and Chairman of All Cannings Cricket Club.
