Professor Henning Sirringhaus

Subject Physics
Fellow type Lecturers, Professors and College Officers
Year started 1999

Henning is Head of Microelectronics and Optoelectronics at the Cavendish Lab. He works in the field of organic semiconductors, investigating the transmission of electrical current through organic molecules and polymers. Organic semiconductors show a rich variety of phenomena not exhibited by conventional inorganic semiconductors such as silicon. Henning is co-founder of Plastic Logic Ltd, a Cambridge start-up company commercializing printed organic transistor technology. Its mission is to 'lead a revolution in the way people acquire, organize, and consume information'. By using thin, flexible plastic sheets, on to which we could download what we want to read, we could dispense with paper. Like so many of today's scientists, Henning's background is international: he trained in Zurich and Princeton.
