Biography

Julian Schmitt is an experimental physicist in the Atomic, Mesoscopic and Optical Physics research group within Cambridge University’s Cavendish Laboratory.

Having a solid background in quantum technologies and photonics, he completed his PhD at the Institute for Applied Physics at the University of Bonn, Germany, in the field of quantum optics within the group of Prof Martin Weitz. For his dissertation he pioneered novel quantum states of light, and subsequently studied two-dimensional photonic materials during a postdoctoral stay at Bonn. Julian’s main research is now focused on the study of strongly correlated two-dimensional many-body systems using ultracold atomic gases.
