Dr Katerina Christofidou

Subject Materials Science and Metallurgy
Fellow type Postdoctoral By-Fellows
Year started 2016

Kathy is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Rolls-Royce University Technology Center within the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy. Her research focuses on the characterization, and optimization of Ni-based superalloy parts produced through additive layer manufacturing, a 3D printing technique. In addition, she supports the groups’ research efforts in various other high temperature metallurgical systems, including “High Entropy Alloys” an emerging area of research for modern metallurgy. For her PhD thesis, at the University of Cambridge in collaboration with Rolls-Royce plc, Katerina studied the properties, microstructures and characteristics of various fundamental Ni and Co-based alloys and developed a novel superalloy for applications in civil aviation jet engines.
