Dr Mark Nikolka

Subject Physics
Fellow type Postdoctoral By-Fellows
Year started 2016

Mark is a postdoctoral researcher at the Cavendish Laboratory where he is working in the area Optoelectronics. He studied for an MPhil in Nanotechnology (2012) and a PhD in Physics, both at the University of Cambridge. During his PhD Mark investigated the physics of organic semiconductors which are special kind of plastics that can transmit electricity. These materials are particularly interesting showing many exciting physical phenomena as well as enabling applications such as flexible displays or solar cells.

Currently, Mark explores how organic semiconductors can be used in low-cost sensors for biomedical applications as well as in thermoelectrics where organic semiconductors can potentially be utilised to generate electricity from waste heat.
