Xina has been involved in university outreach since 2003 when she worked on events as an undergraduate student ambassador. Hot off the heels of this was three years working as a Schools Liaison Officer in the central Cambridge Admissions Office with responsibility for — amongst other things - the Sutton Trust Summer Schools and the Oxford & Cambridge Student Conferences. She left this job to cycle for six months from the UK to Kenya.
Subsequently, after a few years of jobs outside of education – cycle couriering amongst other things — Xina did a PGCE. She has since worked at a number of schools both in the UK and abroad teaching mathematics. Indeed she regularly works both for Churchill and in a secondary teaching capacity elsewhere concurrently – most recently in The Netherlands and Leipzig. Xina’s responsibilities within Churchill lie in visiting and hosting visits from schools and colleges in the link areas of Surrey, Sussex and the London Boroughs of Croydon, Merton and Sutton. This enables the Widening Participation Team as a whole to reach as many students as possible each academic year.
Enjoying a range of employment roles, Xina is also involved with coordinating the overseas interviews for the University each autumn term in Singapore, Malaysia and China. In addition, she can also sometimes be found scooping ice cream for a friend’s business, Jack’s Gelato. It is having a mix of jobs and job roles that really appeals to her!
