Food at College

We are a catered college with subsidised meal options for a great variety of dietary requirements.

The Buttery is a centrally located open plan bar, and is a popular central meeting point for students, lecturers and Fellows. The bar serves light snacks and refreshments throughout the day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the Dining Hall, which is used as a self-service restaurant.

Alternatively, simple meals can be prepared in snack kitchens adjacent to student accommodation, which contain fridges and combination microwaves (note there are no freezers or ovens).

Laundry

The College has several coin-operated washing machines and dryers located in

  • North Court — Staircase 5
  • East Court — Staircase 42
  • South Court — Staircase 47
  • Cowan Court basement
  • Sheppard Flats (hostel and Sheppard Flat residents)
  • Wolfson Flats (for flat residents only)

Machines are currently being adopted for mobile payment. The equipment is owned and maintained by Circuit Group Ltd. If you need to report a fault, you can contact them online. If your fault is not resolved promptly, please let the Porters know.

During peak times there can be considerable demand on the laundries. You can check which machines are in use and how long before they will have completed the cycle online. You can also be set up an email alert when a machine is ready or a cycle is complete.

The Housekeeping Department also offers a dry-cleaning service. Cleaning left by Monday is returned on Thursday each week. The Department is open between 7.30am and 5pm

Wellbeing and Medical support

In crisis?

Tutors: All students are given a tutor, who are a key point of contact for matters around your welfare and progress throughout your time at the Churchill. If you have a wellbeing matter, they may refer you to our Wellbeing Co-ordinator.

Wellbeing Co-ordinator and Counsellors: Our Wellbeing Co-ordinator, Louise Ranger provides 1:1 Confidential support and advice to both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students for matters relating to psychological wellbeing. If you wish to request counselling, you can contact Louise, who will talk to you about your reasons for requesting counselling, and then triage you to the appropriate Counsellor or service.

College Nurse: The College Nurse can deal with minor ailments and injuries such as headaches, eye infections, splinters, grazes, cuts, blisters, minor burns, acid reflux, sprains, strains, colds, flu, diarrhoea, sore throats, cystitis, boils and some rashes. Patients presenting with more serious problems may be directed to Accident & Emergency, a General Practitioner or the Counselling Service.

JCR & MCR Welfare Officers: Churchill College’s JCR and MCR Committees have several welfare officers with whom you can raise issues.

Other support: The College Porters are available 24/7 for any queries, or just a chat. They are all trained First Aiders.

Financial Support: If you are struggling financially, your Tutor is the best person who can advise on which hardship funds or bursaries may be available.
