These U-Shaped buildings house 20 studio flats (on the top floor) and 20 two-bedroom maisonettes on the (ground and first floor) with external staircases leading to the 20 studio flats.
There is a community room and a laundry for residents and in the middle of the building is a communal garden/playground. Priority for the maisonettes goes to students with families and to the studio flats for those with partners. The whole building has been completely re-built since 2008 and all the residences have independent electric heating and are highly insulated. Hot water is provided centrally from solar thermal panels and a central boiler and is included in the rent.

Single parent familiesÂ
Churchill College postgraduate students reside in the maisonettes within the Wolfson flats when they have children or parallel family commitments. The rents for these maisonettes are accordingly set anticipating that residents will ordinarily have a partner who contributes towards the rent. The College understands that, where a single parent is residing with children in a Wolfson maisonette, the rent for the maisonette might prove more stretching, depending upon the student’s circumstances.
Postgraduate single parents who are finding the rent for a Wolfson maisonette financially difficult should talk to their tutor about applying for a hardship grant from the College to help alleviate any financial pressure. All applications will be considered individually, and there is no absolute scale of proposed assistance, though the College anticipates, where appropriate, making hardship grants to cover 25%-50% of the rent concerned.
Please note that households, where occupants include non-student partners, may be liable to pay council tax.
