Dr Ellen Smith is a Simon Research Fellow in the History Department at the University of Manchester. She is currently working on her first monograph, based on her PhD research, which explores the social and cultural experiences of writing in colonial South Asia in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. She has published in journals such as Gender & History and the Journal of British Studies on histories of correspondence, archiving, commemoration and family life across the British Empire.
